Got Married?

SimpleRegistry and TravelersJoy can help you enjoy your wedding AND reduce stress.

Tony Alexander, founder of the websites, is a successful entrepreneur and investor who knows how to bring the fun. He is witty and charismatic, loves to travel and has a knack for technology. He founded TravelersJoy in 2005, grew the company quickly, and founded SimpleRegistry in 2011 based off inspiration from his first venture.

A bit about the businesses…

TravelersJoy is a honeymoon registry started in 2005. It allows couples to register for different elements of their honeymoon, like a nice dinner, horseback ride to a vineyard, or a night’s stay at a hotel. Their friends and family can purchase their gift through the registry and help fund the couple’s upcoming honeymoon. TravelersJoy takes a 7.5% transaction fee with every purchase.

SimpleRegistry makes it easy to create, manage, share and receive any type of gift for any occasion by incorporating items that are traditionally found on registries with non-traditional gifts that are hard to curate through a unified Web application. For each transaction, SimpleRegistry charges a 3.5 percent service fee that can be waived with a one-time $35 membership purchase. All names and addresses for the gift-givers are saved and compiled into one database so you can be sure to thank everyone after your wedding.

Roadtrippers

This Confetti Life - Will and I rarely rent a car while on vacation–we are far more likely to fly into a destination and then rely on public transport–but on our recent visit to the South, we decided that a rental was the way to go. As soon as we had a car reserved, I decided that we were going to do roadtripping right.

Enter: Roadtrippers.

General Assembly in Cincinnati!

General Assembly

We are pleased to announce that we have been selected as General Assembly’s exclusive Viewing Partner in Cincinnati. As part of the program, we will be offering the community a certain number of online videos every month! We will congregate in The Brandery to watch the screenings of the classes, discuss the materials, and brainstorm ways in which we can all use the information in our day-to-day lives.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with General Assembly, General Assembly is a network of campuses that empower individuals through education in technology, business, and design. We are very excited to offer you their educational content and hope that the videos introduce you to things you wish you knew and help you hone things you need to brush up on.

Some of the topics we plan to cover include:

1. How to Teach Yourself to Code

You’ll learn what key resources you need to know, the best methods for learning coding quickly, and emphasize how to make the entire process fun and enjoyable.”

Brandery Partners with UC Law School

The Brandery is excited to announce a new partnership with the University of Cincinnati Law School. The partnership, coined the “Brandery Fellowship Program,” will place four rising UC 3L’s at the Brandery where they will provide Brandery startups with key legal services. The students will be supervised by Professor Lewis Goldfard (Director of the Entrepreneurship and Community Development Clinic at UC) and lawyers from the Taft Law firm.

The students will provide services that include entity selection and formation, preparation of operating agreements and IP assignments, and help address other legal issues as they arise. In addition, the students will be allowed to attend the Brandery classes that address the many facets of starting a company (ie. marketing, branding, raising capital, business models, etc.)

We are really excited about this new partnership and hope both the students and the startups will significantly benefit from the experience working with one another. Thank you to the key players who helped put this together: Director of the Entrepreneurship and Law CLinic, Professor Lewis Goldfarb; UC Law Dean, Lou Bilionis; and Taft Lawyer/Brandery Co-founder, Rob Mcdonald.

Findlay Market

Findlay Market is centered around supporting small business, creating authentic experiences, supporting diversity, and revitalizing a community that has so much potential.

Since it’s conception years ago, Findlay Market has been it a hit. Now, with it’s new leadership, the entrepreneurial energy in Cincinnati and a trajectory of change for the Over-The-Rhine area, the market is only going to get cooler. Joe Hansbauer, the newly appointed President and CEO of Findlay Market, mentioned in an interview with Soapbox media that they are developing programming around the market to 1) draw community members to the physical market space and 2) to bring the market to the people of Cincinnati.

Findlay is nested in a area ripe for development. Many of the surrounding buildings lie vacant or dilapidated. As more and more people venture into the city center to experience the cultural vibrancy of Findlay Market, the area will change. And we can’t wait!

Findlay Market is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market and one of Cincinnati’s most cherished institutions. The Market is located just blocks from downtown in Over-the-Rhine, a dense historic neighborhood rich in 19th century architecture. Open Tuesday through Sunday, Findlay Market is home year-around to about two dozen indoor merchants selling meat, fish, poultry, produce, flowers, cheese, deli, and ethnic foods. On Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from April to November the Market also hosts a thriving farmers market, dozens of outdoor vendors, numerous street performers, and lots of special events.” – Findlay Market website

Te'o needs REPP

Online identity fraud is a PROBLEM.

A problem made exquisitely clear with the Manti Te’O hoax that has been parading around the news for the past few days.

The truth is: Online identity fraud is commonplace. It is 1) a problem for people online dating; 2) a problem for people engaging in peer-to-peer, ecommerce platforms; 3) a problem for anyone traveling via sites like Airbnb or Couchsurfing. With increasing numbers people developing relationships over the internet, there needs to be a way to increase security and transparency.

REPP is a solution.

The platform allows users to create a profile that includes a background check, photo verification, and social media listing, so that people can have confidence their interactions are truthful and they are not putting themselves into a dangerous situation by meeting someone in person.
